Your In-Depth Guide To The Types Of Oven
There are four main types of oven and they can come in two different models either gas or electric. The four types you have to choose between are single ovens, double ovens, double built-in ovens and finally compact ovens.
The ovens have similarities, for example, all types are usually all around 60cm wide but will vary in height. If you’re looking for the best oven on a budget then a single oven is going to be the best option, double ovens are more expensive on average but they are bigger and come with more features.
But if you don’t these extra features then getting a single oven might be for the best. However, the benefits of having a bigger oven like a double or built-in double can certainly come in handy for larger households. Let’s take a look at each type of oven in more detail below.
Single Ovens
Single ovens are one of the cheapest types of oven available however while they are great for people on a budget they do come with some downsides. You only have a single oven to cook food in and they are smaller than most other types of oven.
However, they are still relatively roomy and because of their smaller size, they don’t take up as much room. There are a lot of different models of single ovens available which gives you a lot of choice when it comes to buying one however for bigger households single ovens might not be very practical.
Double Ovens
Take a single oven and times it by two and you have a double oven! Okay, that’s simplifying it a little bit but that is basically what a double oven will look like and how it works. With a double oven, you’ll get twice the cooking space and can use two different cooking options at the same time.
You can set each oven to two different temperatures which can be invaluable when it comes to cooking certain dishes. However, the downside to these types of ovens is that they are more expensive and will take up more space. When it comes to bigger households these types of oven are generally the better option.
A Single Compact Oven
Single compact ovens are as I’ am sure you can guess are similar to single ovens, however, they are a little smaller. Think of a microwave and you’ll get the idea, however while they are smaller than single ovens they do still come with all the accessories you could need.
Compact ovens will still have a grill and you can usually get a number of different accessories. Compact ovens can also come in various models as well including steam ovens however these are a bit more niche. Compact ovens are great if you don’t have a lot of space however that does come with its own problems because you won’t have a lot of room to cook different dishes.
Built-In Double Ovens
Built-in double ovens are smaller than regular double ovens however they still offer a lot of room when it comes to cooking. This means if you have a smaller kitchen but still need the space to cook more than one dish at a time this type of oven is perfect for you.
You can cook at two different temperatures however they do have their downsides because while they are larger than single ovens and compact oven they are still relatively small. So, make sure you take that into account before buying one. Many people see the words double oven and instantly think they’ll be able to cook everything they need when that isn’t always the case.
Electric or Gas Ovens?
So, now we’ve looked at all the main types of oven there is still one question remaining which is whether you should opt for gas or electric. Both gas and electric have their pros and cons and many people will have a preference but what is the difference and is one option really better than the other.
Electric is actually the more common of the two options but is it better? Electric ovens can generate heat more effectively and can better maintain a temperature. There are also many more options when it comes to electric ovens however while on average they are more efficient they are more costly to run.
Gas ovens might be more old-fashioned but they are cheaper to run so you will certainly save money with every meal you cook. The savings might not be huge but they will certainly build-up over time, however, gas oven aren’t as effective when it comes to cooking. They generally can’t maintain temperature as effectively or be able to distribute it as well.
