Air conditioning repair
While the UK may not always host the best weather for most of the year, summer time can become increasingly unbearable as a whole host of heatwaves hit us with increasingly regularity – and even more so if you have a faulty air conditioning unit.
Our fully qualified, highly skilled team of engineers at Repair Aid are here to repair and service your air conditioning unit at speed. Fully trained in the workings of a variety of models and brands, our engineers will get your unit back up and running as soon as possible.
We are not only well priced compared to competitors, but we offer 12-month guarantees on all our work to give you complete peace of mind that your unit can stand up to the test (and the heat!)
What we do
We offer a range of services when it comes to air conditioners – repairs, installation, cleaning, and maintenance/servicing. Our friendly team will ask you a few questions about your problem and send out one of our engineers as soon as possible to assess and, in the vast majority of cases, fix the problem on the spot.
We aim to minimise the amount of disruption we cause to your environment – whether it be commercial or domestic – and offer excellent response times and competitive pricing. Our engineer will diagnose the problem and, armed with the information you have provided, will come with the right parts should the repair job be more extensive than first envisioned.
We take pride in our open communication and, in the unlikely event the job requires some wait time, we will keep you updated on the progress of sourcing what is needed to make sure the repair job is complete. We will provide you with full details of an estimate prior to the visit so you have a good idea of what to expect.
Our engineering team
When it comes to air conditioning jobs – particularly those in the commercial industry – we know how important is to your staff that they are not disrupted more than they need to be while working. We also understand that moods and tensions can be high when an AC unit fails – especially if it’s right in the middle of a heatwave! You can trust our engineers to be professional, friendly, polite and more than up to taking on the job.
Our AC repair engineers are well-versed and trained in repairing many of the major brands and models of AC units on the market today, including those produced by industry leaders such as Samsung, Haier, Electrolux, LG, and Panasonic amongst others. This allows them to assess issues with speed and offer on-the-spot solutions to the problems they encounter with your unit.
While our engineers come prepared, with a variety of spare parts for your make and model of air conditioning unit available in our vans, it’s not always possible to have every part on hand. While it is likely we will, as we aim to solve nearly all jobs on the day, we will use our partnership with your model’s manufacturer – a few of which are listed above – to get the best deal for the part in the event that we don’t.
Our engineers are also F-gas certified and registered, a mandatory necessity that any engineer should have before touching your AC unit. This is because of powerful fluorinated greenhouse gases being present in such units, meaning that you should not attempt to fix the problem yourself or use just any engineer. Our engineers will comply with all legal and safety requirements to assure the problem is fully dealt with in a safe and efficient manner.
How much will it cost?
It really does vary but we do aim to diagnose and, hopefully, remedy the problem within an hour. As such, it may just be as simple as a charge for calling us out. However, sometimes a job may take more than an hour and may also involve spare parts. Parts are charged separately and the cost will increase if the job lasts longer than an hour.
If, for whatever reason, we cannot solve the problem during the visit, we will schedule a further visit and give you a quote for any further work – including the expected cost of any further spare parts we have to source. In fact, it is parts that can end up costing the most in a repair job. Sometimes it may be more effective for us to completely overhaul the system and fit an entirely new unit.
Air conditioning units do age, like any other appliance, and – as such – it can become more costly to maintain them and even source parts. Additionally, some older systems contain gases that have since been banned. In which case, our engineer would recommend that you have a new AC unit installed.
The most common aircon problems
These are the most common problems we see with air conditioning units, and we recommend you read this section before you give us a call to possibly solve the problem yourself, or to help us assess the problem faster:
Loss of power
If a unit appears to have died, there are a number of things you can do. First, make sure it hasn’t tripped the main fuse. Locate the fuse board and see if all the switches are on. Additionally, the system may have been inadvertently turned off. Check the outside portion of the unit, if possible, and see if the electrical isolator is switched to the on position. If all seems well with these two things, it’s best to give us a call. It may be a fast fix, or it could be something that requires spare parts and more time to repair.
No cool air
This likely indicates a gas leak. This will require our engineer to perform some diagnostic tests on both the system and the pipes. This can be a lengthy process and may take us a number of hours to identify and solve the problem.
Too noisy
If the AC unit seems quite noisy, it could be that a replacement motor is needed.
This generally is not a good sign for the overall health of your system but calling us ASAP is key to ensure that we can catch the problem early and, hopefully, prevent any lasting damage.
However, it could be as simple as a loose fitting. This is particularly likely if the unit is fairly new and will require minimal work to repair.
Water leak
A leaking unit suggests that the condensate pump has failed and that the unit hasn’t been properly serviced or maintained. Often, this is quite a simple repair job and we will likely charge the minimum for our services. Even if the pump needs replaced, it is a common part and won’t be a big job.
Gas leak
This is obviously a serious problem and will likely require more than a few hours to identify and correct the problem. We will need to repair the leak and decommission the system.
Sluggish performance
Generally a build up of detritus and grime will cause your AC unit to stop working at its peak efficiency, something you will likely start to notice over time rather than right away.
This is often due to, yet again, poor servicing or even non-existent maintenance. It could even be as simple as a dirty filter. The system will become ‘bunged up’ and it will hamper the flow of air coming in and heading out of the unit. If you see ice building up on the units, this is a good sign of a blockage.
None of these issues are a huge job and catching a problem early enough will save on bigger bills – due to the unit having to work harder to put out cold air – in future.
No heat
It could be as simple as setting the controller to the right mode to correct this problem; however, a lack of heating or cooling suggests a leak has occurred.
In which case, give us a call and we’ll be around to solve the problem in, hopefully, no time at all.
Bad odours
This can happen due to a build up of odours accumulated from the smells in the room over time on the unit’s cooling coils.
Our engineer will treat this with specialist chemicals to remove the bacterial build-up and recommend a maintenance schedule to ensure the problem doesn’t happen again.
