Hotpoint are an electronics company that is popular on both sides of the “pond” both in Europe and in America you’ll find plenty of people with a Hotpoint appliance in their home. But while they might have a reputation for high-quality they are not immune to problems.

Like many washing machines when they suffer errors Hotpoint machines will display error codes, they also have LED lights that are used to highlight errors. They may sound complicated at first but it’s actually simple when you get used to it.

You’ll find five LED lights on the washing machine display and each error will cause certain lights to flash. Depending on the error it could be one light flashing or several, read on to see a full list of all the error codes you need to be aware of.

F1: LED 4 Will Flash

This error means there is a short circuit on the washing machine’s motor, however, the cause could vary and due to the complexity and dangers repairs and checks should only be carried out by a professional.

F2: LED 3 Will Flash

Similar to the first error this code means there is again a problem with the motor although this time it means the machine is detecting a jam in the motor. This could be a wiring issue or a problem with the track, but again if you have no experience with repairs it’s best to call in a professional if you see this error code.

F3: LED 3 and 4 Will Flash

This code means that there is a circuitry issue with your washing machine, you can check the thermistor for some guidance, but repairs and more thorough checks will need to be carried out by a professional.

F4: LED 2 Will Flash

This code means there is an issue with the pressure switch, you might be able to check and rectify this issue yourself with assistance from your washing machine’s manual. But the best bet would be to call in a professional.

F5: LED 2 and 4 Will Flash

This error code could again be related to the pressure switch but could also mean there is a block in the pump. You should usually be able to check the pump for obstructions but refer to your washing machine’s instructions for more information.

F7: LED 2, 3 and 4 Will Flash

This error code means there is a problem with the heater relay inside the washing machine, this could be a simple wiring problem or something more serious. So, it’s advisable to call in a professional repair technician (like us!) to handle this error code.

F8: LED 1 Will Flash

This code again means there is a problem with the heater relay but it is generally considered more serious than F7 error. So, if you see this code calling in a professional is the best option.

F9: LED 1 and 4 Will Flash

This means there is a set-up issue with your washing machine, this will usually be an electronic issue, for example, it could be caused by a power cut. Sometimes shutting off your washing machine or pulling the plug can rectify this problem, but if it persists then call in a professional.

F10: LED 1 and 3 Will Flash

This error code means there is a problem with the sensor in the pressure switch if you can examine the switch you may be able to rectify any issues. However, for more serious problems you should call in a technician to assist you.

F11: LED 1, 3 and 4 Will Flash

This error code means the pump is not working correctly, however it will also usually be a more complicated issue than a simple obstruction. So, if you see this code calling in a professional will be the best decision.

F12: LED 1 and 2 Will Flash

This error code means there is a connectivity issue inside the washing machine, you’ll need an experienced technician to test the modules inside the machine to solve this error.

F13: LED 1, 2 and 4 Will Flash

This error is caused by your machine overheating if the temperature is too high then your appliance won’t be able to function. You may be able to solve this issue yourself if it’s being caused by a blocked airflow or obstruction, but for more complicated issues you’ll need to call in a professional.

F14: LED 1, 2 and 3 Will Flash

This will be most often seen in dryers or washer-dryer hybrids and it means your appliance can’t reach a high enough temperature to dry. Your best option is to call in a professional to test the wiring and inspect the thermistor.

F15: LED 1, 2, 3 and 4 Will Flash

Another code exclusive to dryers and washer-dryer hybrids, this problem is caused by a heater relay failure. You’ll need professional assistance to fix this issue and it will often mean a replacement relay will need to be installed.

F17: LED 4 and 5 Will Flash

This error code is caused by a failure in the door lock if you’re lucky it might be easy to fix however if you can’t spot a problem with the door, but it still won’t open, or lock then call in a professional.

F18: LED 3 Will Flash

This error means there is a problem with the control board in the washing machine, this could be a simple wiring issue or in more serious cases the entire control board may need replacing. Either way, you’ll need to call in a professional repair engineer to assist you.
